2. MINUTES -- LAST MONTH’S MEETING

***************************************

Thanks to those of you enthusiastic members who attended our annual
Holiday Raffle and Luncheon this past Saturday.
Though the day started out a little rainy, it had stopped by the time our event commenced, and none of the forecasted icy conditions occurred. We had a bounty of delicious food to enjoy, as well as wonderful gifts for the raffle.  Our book sales totaled $113.00, while our raffle netted us $242.00 for a total of $355.00.
I think a great time was had by all who attended, members as well as
guests, and I thank you very much!

3. From the President

****************************

Greetings all.

I trust everybody has recovered from the fun and frenzy of the holiday season, and the transition back into real life has been smooth and painless.

I have a confession to make.  I am a blog-a-holic. Now, I can almost HEAR some of you roll your eyes at the mere mention of the word 'blog', but trust me, not all blogs are created equal. While some are indeed silly, frivolous and pretty much a waste of bandwidth, there are others out there that are funny, insightful, witty, well written and just plain good reads.  One such blog is written by Wil Wheaton of 'Star Trek:  The Next Generation' fame.  (I invite you to check him out at www.wilwheaton.typepad.com).   ; His blog touches on every aspect of his life from being an actor, a husband, a step-father, to being a poker player and a writer.  In late December he shared this particular take on writing and the muse:

"I have this idea that there are all these stories racing around the multiverse, and they try real hard be brought into life by a writer, a photographer, a musician, or some other creative person. They're fickle, though: they'll knock on your door for a little bit, but if you don't make an effort to open it for them, they'll take off and find someone else to grant them access to our world. And while I have heard similar sentiments expressed before, this time it really struck me.  I know that I am personally guilty of ignoring that knock on the door.  I am "too busy" with work, school, family.  I spend too much time playing World of Warcraft instead of flexing my creative muscles.  Sometimes I am just too dang lazy to get up off the couch and answer the door.  This is no way for a person who calls herself a writer to behave.  So here in January, the month of resolutions and goal setting, I am going to challenge myself to get up and answer the door and to make telling the stories, who so very much want to be told, a priority in my life.  If any of you are equally as guilty of ignoring that knock on the door, I challenge you to join me, and invite a story into your world.  Oh, and I dare you to seek out a blog or two, it just might broaden your horizons.

I look forward to seeing you all at our next meeting.

Cheers,

Bear

A good head and good heart are always a formidable combination. But when you add to that a literate tongue or pen, then you have something very special." -- Nelson Mandela

7. Upcoming Program Information

**************************************

January is always our edit one. So I would like to do what we did last year. I would like people who want to participate to send me 5 to 10 pages of a manuscript or scene or whatever. Then I will distribute them to other people and get them edits. If they have a chapter that is 12 pages, just send that.. . but not too many extra pages. --Morgan
