3. From the President

Happy Halloween Everybody

I would like to thank everyone for allowing me the honor of being your president this year.  I have the good fortune to have had two amazing presidents to serve as role models.  I only hope I can live up to their legacy.

Our year got of to a magnificent start with our September program.  Gemma Halliday, author of Killer in High Heels, and Leah Hultenschmidt, romance editor for Dorchester Publishing graced us with a program that was both informative and entertaining.  Many thanks to Tanzey, Shayne, and the library for all the hard work they put in to making our workshop a success.

Kudos to all of you who had the confidence, courage and the finished manuscript to make a pitch to our visiting editor, I salute each and every one of you.

I am looking forward to seeing everybody at our October meeting.

Cheers,

Bear

6.  It’s Your Turn

**********************

October is the month of change.  The weather in Kansas starts cooling off.  The  crisp morning air warms up toward the end of the day from golden rays of sunlight that break through multi-colored leaves that seem to speak to you as the wind rushes through their dried leaves.  The wind nudges the leaves to part from the branches so they spiral down to create a lush carpet that blankets the earth.  Baseball is winding up and football is really getting strong.  Basketball is itching to get started.  Kids laugh it up outside as long as they can, building forts from a part of Mother Nature that once shaded their playing area.

October is the time of change.  The clocks are set back at the end of the month.  When we leave our homes in the morning it is dark, only to give us a few more precious moments of light at the end our workday.  We all look forward to slowing down from our busy summers, enjoy spiced cider, getting fire pits cleaned up for a late evening get together with our families where we talk about old times, try out new projects, or create new traditions.

October is the month of bumps in the night, jack o’lanterns, and  ticklish-tummy children dressed up as little goblins or princesses.  It’s the month when you can step outside after dark, when it’s quiet, and hear the sounds of geese migrating south for the winter.  If you are like me, you wait for this moment each year.  It’s a moment when you can embrace nature and its cycles.  It’s the time to slow down and appreciate a warm fire and a cup of tea or coffee; it’s time to curl up in a chair and appreciate a good book.  It’s an ever better time to sit down at your computer and start writing.  October is the month of change.  What have you changed this month?

What does November mean to you?  I invite and encourage at least one member of KWI to send me even one small paragraph or more of what November means to you.  I’ll post it in this category with or without your name if you choose.  Perhaps you can write about a memory of something that happened in a November past.  It’s a chance to use your senses and share sights and sounds and smells that remind you of something special like walking down a damp sidewalk on Halloween evening with the rustling of leaves under your feet and the sound of trick or treaters eagerly making their way through the neigborhoods.  Come on, take a chance and share some writing with your fellow members. - Sabrina
