We meet at 12:30 p.m. on the fourth Saturday of every month except December. Our business meeting lasts half an hour and the program begins at 1 p.m. Join us at the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library, 1515 SW 10th.

2010

September 25th: Multi-published inspirational author Nancy Mehl will talk about putting together a well-researched book, and also open the floor for general questions on a writing career. We are going to make this into a workshop, but will announce other speakers as it comes together. Because of that, the time might be different – Nancy is traveling from Wichita, and will be speaking.

October 23rd: Some area journalists, including Morgan Chilson and Tim Hrenchir, will join with former KBI agent/writer Mark Bouton to talk about interviewing people to gain information. As a writer, you need to be able to call someone and gather information to make your writing better. For instance, an in-depth interview with a firefighter to find out the kind of language he uses (industry slang) will make your character more real. Morgan and Tim have each been interviewing for over 25 years, and Mark brings his law enforcement interviewing background to mix. We’ve invited a few others, but need to confirm.

November 20th: Our annual holiday party! A fun, social event, we meet to eat food, exchange stories and laugh. Oh, and don’t forget the raffle. Most people bring a donated gift and then we buy tickets to join raffles and win prizes. More on this as the time draws near. . . just know you’re going to have fun!

December: No meeting.

2011

January 22nd: Our annual editing meeting. Writers submit up to 10 pages ahead of time for edits/critiques and then we meet and discuss our thoughts about the writing. An excellent way to add a spark to that challenging scene!
